Jenny Han shares why fakes scenes were filmed in Paris

After the release of the final episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Han was finally discussing some of her creative choices. One of those included purposely filming fake scenes outdoors so audiences could not guess the ending of the show. Han told Entertainment Weekly, "We did have Gavin come out so that we could have some stuff with him in Paris, just because I like to keep surprises for the audience. That's really hard in this day and age. As movies get filmed, people see the whole movie, and I think it takes away from some of the excitement around it when you have all these spoilers. So that was my way of trying to protect the story for the audience."

The trick worked. Ahead of the Paris episodes, fans shared videos of Tung and Casalegno hugging on a Paris street. Many thought Han changed the ending from the books to the series. The videos went viral and kept audiences guessing until the last episode.

"Obviously they weren't in the episodes, but it was kind of fun to do that and see people leaning out of their balconies recording it. Because I was like, 'They're never going to see this. It was cool. I felt like a CIA agent or something," he shared.The fake scenes had no dialogues and were added on to the scenes that were being filmed in Paris for episode 10. They were to throw fans off the real scenes that were being filmed outdoors between Tung and Briney.
