Aamir Khan Drops BIG Hint About Mahabharata Adaptation, Says 'It's Not A Film But Yagna'
Aamir Khan has never held back on sharing his ambitions to make a movie based on the Indian epic Mahabharata. Though it has been years since he first shared his plans, the production has yet to materialise.

Aamir Khan, who has long expressed his passion for bringing Mahabharata to the screen, revealed more about his plans during a recent interview. While production hasn’t yet begun, Aamir answered a fan's question about why there hasn't been a film adaptation of the epic, even as
Ramayana is in the works.Aamir shared how he has been envisioning the project for years, he said, "Mahabharata in my mind for the last 25-30 years. My work has already started from the inside." Aamir also expressed his hope that the film would come to life soon, calling it "his life's most important project." He further added, "In the next month or two, the initial writing process will start, but it is a time-consuming process. Mahabharat is not a film, it is a yagna, so you have to be prepared for that." On collaborating with Salman, Shah Rukh, Aamir shared, "Salman and Shah Rukh have worked together, and Salman and I have collaborated too, but the three of us haven’t yet. I think we’re more open to it now than ever before. If the right story comes along with strong roles for each of us, and we all like it, we’ll definitely do it."
Professional Front
On the work front, Khan starred in Sitaare Zameen Par, a thematic sequel to his 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. In the film, which was released in June 2025, he plays a basketball coach who trains a team of adults with intellectual disabilities. He also made a special appearance in Tamil film Coolie starring Rajinikanth, which was released in August 2025. He was last seen in Aryan Khan's The Ba***ds Of Bollywood, currently streaming on Netflix.
