While Lakshya has been retained for Dostana 2, Vikrant Massey confirmed signing the film. According to early buzz, Pratibha Rannta has been approached to play the female lead. Janhvi also exited the project with Kartik and might not return due to prior commitments. Janhvi Kapoor's reaction to Dostana 2 returning to the drawing room

Janhvi, who shot for a couple of days with Kartik for Dostana 2, expressed her confusion over the film going back to the drawing room. In a previous interview with The Lallantop, she said. “I don’t know either. We had shot for that film for about 30 to 35 days. The shoot was going very well according to me. I don’t know why the film was shelved. We began shooting for that film long before Covid. And then Covid happened and there was a delay of over one-and-a-half years. Then people felt that to restart the film… I don’t know.”When asked about Karan and Kartik’s alleged feud, Janhvi replied, "I don't think it was that. I believe that job is really essential to them both. You should question them about that, though, because unke beech kya hua kya nahi hua.”
