Anupam Kher, last seen in Tanvi the Great, recently sat for an exclusive interaction with Zoom for its Spotlight Sessions. In a freewheeling chat with us, the veteran actor opened up about his professional
and personal highs and lows. At one point, the senior actor recalled the phase when he was diagnosed with depression. It was Kher's ophthalmologist (eye doctor) who suggested he see a psychiatrist as the senior actor struggled to sleep at night for a year.

Going down memory lane, Anupam Kher shared, "One year before my father passed away, I became an insomniac. I even visited a sleep studio in Chicago. I couldn't sleep at night, and I had to shoot in the afternoon. Lights aankh mein jaati thi tab mujhe thodi dryness hoti thi. I visited an eye doctor and asked him for an ointment because I wasn't able to sleep at night for a year."

Later, the senior actor revealed what happened at the ophthalmologist's clinic. "At that time, I had written my first motivational and inspirational life coaching book, which had become a bestseller. He heard me out and said, 'You don't need an eye doctor. You need a therapist. You need a psychiatrist'. I made fun of the doctor and asked if he had gone crazy. What happened next? Well, the veteran actor visited a psychiatrist at his clinic. However, Kher solved some of the doctor's problems first, before letting him discuss his problem."I solved doctor's problems for an hour. And when I was about to leave, I gave my number and book to the doctor. I noticed him writing something on a pad and asked him what he wrote. To which, he said that it was my medication. He said 'aap disturbed hai aur manic depressive hai'. Then, I took medication for two months and after that I didn't continue it," he shared.
