Talking about Kantara Chapter 1, Apoorva S Rao said that Rishab Shetty's film did a good job at showing the tradition of a community to the world. "That said, I think the movie did a great job of showcasing a glimpse of our traditions to a wider audience who may not have known about them before."
Ask her about her opinion on the way certain members of the audience mimicked the Daivas, she said "Honestly, I would prefer not to comment in detail about the subject of our Daivas and Bhoothas is very personal and sacred to us. It’s deeply rooted in our culture and identity, and I don’t feel it’s my place to publicly interpret or speak about it. But when it comes to the deeper spiritual aspects, that’s something best spoken about by the people who truly belong to and serve within that culture."
Hombale Films Appeal To Audience To Avoid Mimicking Daivas
For the unversed, social media has been flooded with videos of people imitating the Daivas and the rituals seen in the film. Soon, the makers have issued a public appeal to not perform such acts.
Taking to their official X handle (Formerly known as Twitter), makers of Kantara Chapter 1, Hombale films issued a detailed statement. At first, they thanked viewers for their unconditional support and wrote, "To the cinephiles and the global audience, Dhaivaradhane stands as a profound symbol of faith and cultural pride within Tulunadu, the coastal region of Karnataka. Our films, Kantara and Kantara Chapter-1, were created with the purpose of respectfully portraying this devotion and celebrating the glory of the Daivas. We have strived tirelessly to ensure that the profound respect and unwavering devotion central to Dhaivaradhane were honoured, successfully spreading the significance and heritage of the Tulu soil with the world. We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming positive response. However, we have observed that certain individuals have been imitating the Daiva characters from the movie and engaging in inappropriate behaviour in public spaces and gatherings."
