Prashant Kishor on Tuesday told news agency PTI that he will not contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2025, stating that his party, Jan Suraaj, has decided he should focus on organisational work.
The announcement, made during an interview with PTI, comes amid months of speculation about Kishor’s potential electoral debut and whether he would take on Bihar’s top political leaders.
With this declaration, all speculation about PK entering the electoral fray has been put to rest. For the time being, Kishor has said that he will concentrate solely on strengthening the party’s organisational base.On Wednesday, Kishor returned to his role as a political strategist, forecasting a certain defeat for the ruling NDA in Bihar. He pointed to the BJP-led coalition’s difficulties in finalising seats and candidates as a sign of trouble.
Kishor On JDU
Earlier, Kishor had predicted that the JD(U) would struggle to win even 25 of the 243 assembly seats, and he said the situation for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party has only worsened since then."The NDA is definitely on its way out and Nitish Kumar will not return as chief minister," Kishor said.Having worked closely with the JD(U) supremo both as a poll analyst and, for a brief period, as a party colleague, he added: "You do not need to be a psephologist to fathom what is in store for the JD(U). In the last assembly polls, Chirag Paswan staged a revolt just a few days ahead of the announcement of elections and fielded candidates, many of whom were inconsequential, against nominees of Kumar's party, causing its tally to crash to 43."
'Complete Chaos' In NDA: Kishor
Kishor also highlighted what he described as “complete chaos” within the NDA, noting that it remains unclear which seats the BJP will contest and where the JD(U) intends to field its candidates. He went on to comment on the opposition alliance, saying, "The situation is no better in the INDIA bloc either. There is a never-ending tiff between RJD and the Congress. And nobody knows if former state minister Mukesh Sahani's Vikassheel Insaan Party is still by their side."
