Keira Knightley Reveals She Was NOT Aware Of Boycott Before Joining Harry Potter Audiobook Cast
Harry Potter is a cult classic, with its mega successful franchise of 8 movies, spinoffs, and even video games that, back then, minted money in Billions. Fans are super excited for the upcoming TV series,
but the makers and cast have been facing backlash over JK Rowling's thoughts on the transgender community. Keira Knightley, who has joined Audible's new audiobook rendition of all seven books in J.K. Rowling's bestselling Harry Potter franchise, claims she was not aware of the boycott calls.
Keira Knightley Was NOT Aware Of Harry Potter Boycott Before Joining Audiobook Cast
Knightley, in an interview with Decider, said "I was not aware of that, no. I'm very sorry," when asked about the boycott. "You know, I think we're all living in a period of time right now where we're all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren't we? And we've all got very different opinions. I hope that we can all find respect." Talking about her respect for Rowling, she added, "I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with." "I will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don’t get to keep and cherish. To come back to our earlier thing — I just don’t think these things are either or. I think it’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with," she concluded.
What Went Wrong?
For the unversed, JK Rowling has been posting what many believe are transphobic comments on X, leaving netizens upset. She also uses social media to regularly troll her critics and openly take aim at public figures. Earlier, Watson had gone against the author and penned on social media, "Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are. I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are," leaving Jo furious.
