Foreign Couple Buys Dahi Puckha From Kolkata Street Vendor– Only To Throw It Away Untasted; Video
From criticising the ‘food wastage’ to pointing out the ‘disrespectful behaviour’- the internet did not hold back with its harsh reaction to a foreign couple visiting India. A video was shared online,
which showed the duo trying the popular street-side Indian dish- Dahi Puckha. The clip showed them approaching a street vendor in Kolkata, who was selling ‘Dahi Fuckha’. As per the clip, the man was selling four Puckhas for USD 0.34. After a brief discussion, the couple asked the man to prepare a plate for them- however, they then continued to criticise his methods and hygiene throughout the time the seller was making the snack. As soon as the man was done, the couple took their plate, thanked the vendor and started walking away. After covering some distance, both reached an open area where they began to contemplate where they should even try the snack. Ultimately, the couple threw the entire plate away into a nearby dustbin– without even tasting it. The ‘rude’ gesture was quick to upset many on social media, who pointed out that the couple could have gone to an expensive restaurant- yet they chose a street-side dish for merely ‘USD 0.34’. Many also called the duo ‘pretentious’ for trying to ‘act mightily’ in front of a Pani Puri seller. As per the post, the foreign man “normally LOVES pani puri”, but also wanted to try “Dahi Fuckha” as they looked similar. The couple then clarified in the caption that the seller’s way of preparation is what threw them off. Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post.

“$0.34 street food in Kolkata, India. I normally LOVE pani puri so I decided to try Dahi Fuckha which seemed very similar! After seeing how it was prepared I couldn’t bring myself to try it, sorry. We did try giving it away to stop food waste but unfortunately no one wanted it. P.S. The man was absolutely lovely,” the post read. The post was shared on Instagram, by the handle ‘Alex Wanders’.
