Ahead of the film's release, Arun Vijay spoke to Tamil film portal Cinemavikatan, about agreeing to be part of the project. He said, "Dhanush’s narration for Idli Kadai was quick, precise, and to the point. He gave me a clear picture of my character, explained his role, and spoke about how we fit into the bigger story. In just 45 minutes, he managed to convey everything with such clarity that I immediately knew what the film would offer audiences. I remember telling him, 'I have confidence in you, brother. Let’s do it.' There was no question of taking time to think—it was an instant yes."Dhanush stars as Murugan in Idli Kadai. The star cast includes Nithya Menen as Kayalvizhi, Sathyaraj as Vishnu Varadhan, Arun Vijay as Ashwin, Samuthirakani as Marisamy, Rajkiran as Sivanesan, Shalini Pandey as Meera and Parthiban as R Arivu.
The recently released trailer shows Dhanush as a man who quits his job at a Michelin Star restaurant to help bring the lost glory to his father's (Rajkiran) idli store. Sathyaraj's character tells his son, played by Arun Vijay, to learn from Murugan instead of leading a life as rich-man's son.The plot also includes a conflict between Arun Vijay's character and Dhanush's Murugan, which is depicted after the latter's departure from his restaurant.The technical crew features Dhanush's frequent collaborator, music composer GV Prakash, cinematographer Kiran Koushik, editor GK Prasanna, and art director Jackson. The film is produced by Akash Bhaskaran through his Dawn Pictures banner and Dhanush through his Wunderbar Pictures banner. Inban Udhayanidhi, son of Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, distributes the film.
