
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has responded to the recent suicides of ADGP Puran Kumar and ASI Sandeep Lathar, initiating administrative action in both cases.According to reports,
2001-batch officer and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar was found dead from a gunshot wound at his residence in Chandigarh. Subsequently, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted in Haryana's Rohtak also allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday, October 14.The ASI, identified as Sandeep Kumar, left behind a four-page note in which he made allegations of corruption against Y Puran Kumar.Sandeep Kumar's death occurred amid ongoing developments related to Puran Kumar’s case, which has led to changes in police leadership and drawn political attention.Sandeep Kumar’s death came hours after the state government sent DGP Shatrujeet Kapur on leave late Monday night.Earlier, the government had transferred Narendra Bijarniya, former Rohtak superintendent of police. Both were among eight officials named by Puran Kumar in a note.Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met the family of Puran Kumar and ordered an investigation. He also approved administrative changes, including sending the DGP on leave and removing the SP of Rohtak. The CM assured the family of procedural support and a formal inquiry.In the case of ASI Sandeep Lathar, the Chief Minister visited the family, offered condolences, and stated that the matter would be addressed.Puran Kumar, 52, had recently been posted as Inspector General at the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Sunaria, Rohtak.His note named eight officers, including DGP Kapur and Bijarniya, and cited caste-based discrimination, workplace harassment, and misconduct.Puran Kumar's wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, has requested that Kapur and Bijarniya be named in the FIR for allegedly abetting her husband's suicide.The family is also seeking their arrest and has withheld consent for post-mortem and cremation until their demands are considered.Notably, Chief Minister Saini’s approach to both incidents has been marked by quiet determination and reaffirmed that, for him, public service and justice stand above politics.
