Aadhaar Update: UIDAI Hikes Fee From October 1, Check New Charges & Other Details
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a revision in charges for Aadhaar-related services, effective from October 1, 2028. This revision aims to streamline Aadhaar services while
encouraging timely biometric updates, particularly among children and teenagers.According to the revised service charges:
Services previously priced at Rs 50 will now cost Rs 75.
Services previously priced at Rs 100 will now cost Rs 125.
From 2028, Rs 75 services will increase to Rs 90, and Rs 125 services will rise to Rs 150. Demographic updates cover details such as name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number, or email ID. If these changes are carried out along with a biometric update, they will remain free of cost.
Biometric Update Charges
Updating enrolled biometrics such as fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs will follow these rules:Free of charge:
Once for children aged 5–7 years.
Once for teenagers aged 15–17 years.
Standard fee of Rs 125 applies in all other cases.To encourage timely updates, UIDAI has also waived the Rs 125 charge for children aged 7–15 years until September 30, 2026.According to UIDAI's Office Memorandum dated September 29, 2025, "The Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) service is free of cost for children in the age groups of 5–7 years and 15–17 years. To reduce the MBU backlog, the Authority has decided to waive charges for Aadhaar number holders in the 7–15 age group for a period of one year, until September 30, 2026."For home enrolment services, UIDAI charges Rs 700 (including GST) plus standard update fees. When multiple residents at the same address request this service, the first enrollee pays Rs 700, while others pay Rs 350 each, as reported by ET.
