Talking about Amrita’s role in his life, Saif said, “I’ve spoken about it a lot, and obviously, 21 is a young age, and things change. It’s a pity things didn’t work out." When Kajol quipped, "But she brought you up well,” Saif wittily answered, "There were some really important and learning years, and like I said, she's a wonderful mom. But I'm very lucky; I think my ex-wife and I get along well enough. We usually speak about important things, and usually when I'm in a hospital bed. Which is actually quite often. So yeah, it's a regular kind of contact."

Saif got married to Amrita in 1991 when he was 21 years old; she was 33. They had their daughter, Sara Ali Khan, in 1995 and son Ibrahim Ali Khan in 2001. The couple got divorced in 2004. Saif married Kareena Kapoor in 2012. They have two sons, Taimur (9), and Jeh (4).Sara and Ibrahim share a close bond with their father's wife, Kareena and sons Taimur and Jeh.
