Even before its release, the movie was selected as India's official entry to the Oscars 2026. Inspired by a 2020 New York Times article by Basharat Peer, Homebound tells the tale of two childhood friends from a small North Indian village who aspire to become police officers. Their lives take an unexpected turn when the COVID-19 pandemic strikes, putting their friendship and resilience to the test.
