New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that his job is to participate in the democratic system, not to protect it, when asked by a reporter whether he would approach the Court or any higher agency regarding his 'voter deletion' charge against the Election Commission."Frankly, what I am doing here is not my work. My work is to participate in the democratic system. My work is not to protect the democratic system. That is the work of the institutions in India. They are not doing it, so I have to do it. By the end of our presentation, which will take 2–3 months, you will have no doubt in your mind that in India, vote theft has been done state after state, Lok Sabha after Lok Sabha elections…," Rahul Gandhi said when asked whether he would approach the Supreme
Court.
Rahul Gandhi earlier today once again raised doubts about the electoral process in the country, alleging deletion of voters, especially from Congress booths or communities that vote for the party, in the Aland constituency of Karnataka. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) alleged that over 6,000 voters were deleted in Aland in a systematic way using software.
Election Commission Fact-Checks Rahul Gandhi, Dismisses Allegations as ‘Baseless’
The Election Commission said Rahul Gandhi's allegations of 'voter deletion' are incorrect and baseless, adding that deletion of voters cannot happen using software. The poll body took to X, formerly Twitter, and said, "Allegations made by Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi are incorrect and baseless. No deletion of any vote can be done online by any member of the public, as misconceived by Rahul Gandhi. No deletion can take place without giving an opportunity of being heard to the affected person. In 2023, certain unsuccessful attempts were made for the deletion of electors in the Aland Assembly Constituency, and an FIR was filed by the authority of ECI itself to investigate the matter. As per records, Aland Assembly Constituency was won by Subhadh Guttedar (BJP) in 2018 and BR Patil (INC) in 2023."
Rahul Gandhi Is Weakening Democracy, Says BJP
Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi's voter deletion charge, BJP MP Anurag Thakur said the Leader of Opposition is busy weakening democracy."...While the Election Commission of India is functioning without bias, Rahul Gandhi is busy weakening democracy, misleading citizens, and trying to create a situation like Bangladesh and Nepal…"Anurag Thakur reminded the nation saying, "In 2023, unsuccessful attempts were made to remove names from the Aland Assembly constituency. The Election Commission itself had directed the filing of an FIR in this regard. The Election Commission has already provided the mobile number and IP address. After all this, what has the CID of Congress-ruled Karnataka done so far? According to the records, it was the Congress candidate from the Aland Assembly constituency who had won. So, did Congress win by stealing votes? Rahul Gandhi himself admitted in his press conference that he is not here to save democracy. If not to save it, then is his goal to destroy it? By taking help from toolkits, he constantly questions and undermines our constitutional institutions…"
