Declared Dead, 86-Year-Old Woman 'Comes To Life' Moments Before Cremation in Odisha's Puri

Odisha: In a dramatic turn of events that stunned onlookers in Odisha’s Puri on Monday, an 86-year-old woman who had been presumed dead came back to life just moments before her cremation.The woman, identified as P Lakshmi, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, had travelled to her son-in-law’s home in Ganjam district when her health suddenly deteriorated. She was taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Her family then transported her body to Puri for the last rites.As the family and priests prepared for the cremation at Swargadwar crematorium, a security guard reportedly noticed unexpected movement. We arranged a vehicle to carry the body to the Swargadwar crematorium at Puri from home for cremation,” said Dharma Sethi, a family member.

Rushed Back to Hospital

The cremation was immediately halted and Lakshmi was rushed to Puri Medical College and Hospital, where doctors confirmed she was alive and began emergency treatment. Her condition, however, is said to be critical.
