The Summer I Turned Pretty: Rachel Blanchard Aka Susannah Calls Conrad Vs Jeremiah Rift 'Fracture In Their Relationship'
Actor
Rachel Blanchard, who plays Susannah in Prime Video’s hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty, defended her character, saying her message was often “misconstrued” and never intended to create conflict or pressure among the characters.
Susannah’s Role in the Love Triangle
Blanchard’s Susannah is the mother of Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Throughout the series, Susannah believed that Belly (the daughter of her best friend Laurel) would eventually end up with one of her sons. However, Blanchard clarified that it was never Susannah’s intention to spark the messy love triangle that unfolded over three seasons.“I don’t know if Susannah knew they were interpreting it as pressure. If she had known, she might have expressed it differently. I think it was more of a fantasy for her,” Blanchard explained in an interview with
The Hollywood Reporter.
Not About Choosing Sides
The actor emphasised that Susannah wasn’t fixated on pushing Belly toward Conrad or Jeremiah at all costs.“If she knew the chaos and hurt it would cause, she would have worded things differently. I think she’d only be happy if they truly wanted to be together,” she said.ALSO READ: The Summer I Turned Pretty Star Christopher Briney Engaged To Longtime Girlfriend Isabel Machado?
On the Rift Between Conrad and Jeremiah
Addressing the fallout from the love triangle, Blanchard noted how deeply the situation fractured the brothers’ bond.“I think she would have been so disappointed. She never meant to cause this kind of chaos. All she wanted was for everyone to look out for each other. Maybe her message was misconstrued and taken too seriously,” she added.
What’s Next for the Franchise
The series wrapped up with its final episode on September 17. Following its success, the makers announced a feature film helmed by author Jenny Han. While actor Lola Tung (Belly) will return, Rachel Blanchard’s involvement remains uncertain, as Susannah usually appears in flashbacks.
