In a dramatic twist, a 20-year-old woman believed to have been killed for dowry in Uttar Pradesh resurfaced alive in Madhya Pradesh nearly two years after vanishing from her marital home. The woman had
gone missing from Auraiya district in 2023, triggering a missing complaint from her family. When she could not be traced, her relatives accused her husband and six in-laws of murdering her over dowry demands. Based on their allegations, police booked them under Section 304B (dowry death) of the IPC.For two years, the case dragged on until a Special Operations Group and surveillance teams of UP Police finally tracked her down in Madhya Pradesh."The woman went missing a year and a half after she got married. A missing person's complaint was filed by her family and then, on the court's direction, a case was registered against the husband and some of her in-laws," Auraiya Circle Officer Ashok Kumar Singh told NDTV.Investigators are now probing where she had been all this while and why she chose not to contact either her family or in-laws during her disappearance."The investigation was on and we managed to trace her to Madhya Pradesh. She was brought back to Auraiya on Wednesday and further probe is on," he added, asserting that the development will certainly impact the dowry death case in court.
