The Legacy of Dharma Productions
Founded by Yash Johar in 1976, Dharma Productions became one of Bollywood’s most influential studios. After Yash Johar’s passing in 2004, Karan Johar took over the reins, carrying forward his father’s cinematic legacy.The banner’s first production, Raj Khosla’s Dostana (1980), starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, and Zeenat Aman, was the highest-grossing film of the year. It was followed by Duniya (1984) and Muqaddar Ka Faisla. The 1990 release Agneepath, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, later achieved cult status and earned Bachchan the National Film Award for Best Actor.In later years, Dharma delivered numerous blockbusters such as Gumrah, Duplicate, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Student of the Year, Brahmāstra, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, collaborating with top stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra.
