How you hold your device literally impacts your mood and your anxiety levels.
The longer you look down at the little screen scrolling away at reels, the heavier it feels. A US-based chiropractor, namely Dr. Schulman recently shared a reel explaining why people who walk or sit in a slouched position often have increased feelings of depression and overall unhappiness. For example when the body feels cold, your body naturally curls up and slouches. But when you stand upright, it gives you an instant boost of confidence. This is something that the doctor calls embodied cognition. There is also compelling research that shows that our thoughts are not just shaped inside the brain as one would think, our body language has a say in it too. If and when we are in a collapsed posture, our brain reads this as a signal of defeat or helplessness and reinforces one to be in a low mood.
Such a constant state of stress makes it harder for one to relax and let go of anxiety. Posture is something that typically adds to and even amplifies mental health issues.
