On September 30, Kim returned to civilian life. According to Allkpop, Kim shared, "One year and six months have passed—long if you think of it as long, short if you think of it as short. There were tough moments, but thanks to the fans who loved and waited for me, and the amazing seniors, juniors, fellow soldiers, and officers, I was able to safely complete my military service."

Through his agency, Companion Company, he expressed respect towards the active-duty soldiers. The actor said, "I want to send my deepest respect and gratitude to all service members protecting our country at this very moment." He also had a message for his fans: "I sincerely thank my fans who have always supported me. I feel that I have matured during my time in the military.
