Indian High Commissioner to Singapore Shilpak Ambule informed Sarma that Garg died while swimming in the sea "without a life jacket". Authorities said the singer had initially worn one, but removed it, claiming it was oversized and hampered his swimming. He was later found floating in the water before being pulled aboard and given CPR. Doctors at Singapore General Hospital declared him dead on Friday. The post-mortem examination of Garg's body was completed in Singapore on Saturday. His remains were handed over to the accompanying team in the presence of Indian embassy officials, Sarma said. The body is expected to be flown to Delhi and then to Guwahati later in the evening. The chief minister said since all those accompanying Garg are Indian citizens, the state will seek guidance from the Union home ministry on questioning them. "The people of Assam deserve to know exactly what happened to their icon in his final moments," Sarma said.In Guwahati, the state government has decided to keep Garg's body at Sarusajai Stadium for the public to pay their last respects. His family will work with the government to decide on the details of the funeral. The singer's father, who is ailing, has requested to see his son’s body one last time, the CM said. Sarma said the government will ensure "nothing is hidden" in the inquiry into Garg's death. "This matter must become absolutely clear before the people of the state," he said.
