More Competition On Google Discover, To Include X And Instagram Posts Alongside Articles
Google
has been making a lot of changes to its products, and now it's time for Discover. In a recent development, the tech giant has announced that they are bringing a new update for Google Discover, with which users will now see posts from Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and X in their Discover feed. The update is focused on bringing all the channels to a single place. And multiple studies, as per Google, have shown that people like having multiple options, like social updates, videos, and articles on the Discover feed.
Google Discover New Features
Google Discover is also bringing a new feature that will let the masses follow their favorite creators and publishers on the Discover feed. Just by tapping on the name of a publisher or creator, people will be able to see the kind of content posted by them. And if you follow one, then Discover will show you more content from that particular creator or publisher. Nonetheless, only those who have signed in with their Google account will get access to this one.
What It Means For Publishers?
See, the Google Discover feed of any individual is curated based on their searches and behaviour. Now, keeping in mind that Instagram or X posts can easily grab eyeballs as compared to an article, things may get a little tougher for publishers from here. However, the feature to follow a publisher may prove to be of some help. Seems like Google is not very fond of publishers, as first we got to see the AI Mode disrupting all the traffic and making blogs feel outclassed. Due to this, Google has recently been sued by Penske Media, the company behind Rolling Stone.
