All records broken by KPop Demon Hunters
Most-watched movie ever on Netflix
It surpassed Red Notice, an action comedy with Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. KPop Demon Hunters attracted 236 million total views compared to the 230.9 million that Red Notice garnered. The other 3 titles in the top five list of Netflix's most-streamed films are Carry-On, Don’t Look Up and The Adam Project.
15 weeks at either No. 1 or No. 2
KPop Demon Hunters sustained its 15th straight week on the Netflix Top 10 during the September 22-28 viewing window. This makes it the longest-running title ever in the English-language category. Interestingly, the film has spent eight of its 15 weeks in the No. 1 position and seven weeks at No. 2. Infact, it has not yet fallen to No. 3 or lower. This possibly means it will continue its winning streak on the Top 10 for several more weeks.
Dethroning TV blockbusters
It garnered more views than some of Netflix's most popular TV series, such as Squid Game and Wednesday, to become the most-watched title in the streamer's history. Until August, KPop Demon Hunters ranked third behind Squid Game Season 1 (265.2 million views) and Wednesday (252.1 million views). It rose further defeating the other two, and breaking viewership records set by shows released during the COVID-19 pandemic when online streaming was at a peak.
Billboard music and chart records
The soundtrack of the animation held its four songs simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100's Top 10, a first for any soundtrack in nearly 30 years. Its song Golden by the fictional band Huntr/x (sung by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI) remained #1 single in the Billboard Hot 100 chart for multiple weeks. Its deluxe reissue helped it rise to #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart too. It has now become the first animated film soundtrack to have four simultaneous top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
