Gor, who arrived in New Delhi on Friday, met PM Modi on Saturday and discussed an array of bilateral issues, including defence, trade and technology. Gor also held a series of meetings, including with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
The US greatly values its relationship with India, Gor said after the meeting, adding that he's optimistic about the days ahead for both nations."It's an honour and a privilege to be here today. We just finished an incredible meeting with Prime Minister Modi, where we discussed bilateral issues, including defence, trade, and technology. We also discussed the importance of critical minerals and the importance of that to both of our nations. The US values its relationship with India, and under the strong leadership of President Donald J. Why Sergio Gor's visit is significant
Accompanied by Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J Rigas, Sergio Gor is on a six-day visit to New Delhi, days after the Senate confirmed his appointment as the US envoy to India. A loyal member of Trump's inner circle, he was nominated as the next American envoy to India in August. The US Senate confirmed the appointment this week.Gor's visit comes at a time when ties between New Delhi and Washington have been reeling under stress after Trump doubled tariffs on Indian goods to a whopping 50 per cent, including 25 per cent additional duties for India's purchase of Russian crude oil.However, the recent phone conversations between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump have raised hopes for a positive outcome from the ongoing negotiations for the trade deal.(With agency inputs)
