Lawyer expressed doubts over investigation
Now, Taiwanese lawyer Yan Ruicheng come forward to present his opinion. Pointing at how the Chinese authorities quickly declared that there was "no criminal suspicion", it released the statement within 12 hours of Yu's passing. According to Koreaboo, he said, "It would be impossible to close the investigation in such a short time."Yan claimed potential illegalities, such as unlawful detention and evidence tampering that could apply to a USB with sensitive data linked to the case. While the USB's existence has not been confirmed as yet, Yan stressed that the investigators could be charged with intimidation for handing or destroying evidence. "If there really was unlawful detention, violence, and evidence tampering, then this isn’t just about one man’s tragedy. It’s a test for society itself – whether we choose to protect the vulnerable, or simply look away."
Possible jail term
Yan added that if Yu's body was cremated before full autopsy, the investigation's credibility would be "seriously weakened." He stated that the offenders could be sentenced to prison. "If six people were involved, their combined sentences could total 500 years. If 17 people were involved, it could amount to as much as 1,500 years," Yan explained.Chinese actress Sun Lin recently written in a now-deleted viral post, "Your fans will fight for justice. Justice may be delayed, but it will never be absent." She later revealed of receiving anonymous online threats, and was even injured on September 19 by a falling flowerpot while collecting a package.
