Emmy-nominated political thriller The Diplomat is returning on October 16 on Netflix. Thankfully, fans will not have to wait too long for the fourth season as it is about to begin production less than a month after the third season premiere. The Diplomat Season 4 to film from November 2025

The fourth season of The Diplomat was officially confirmed in May 2025, and production is set to begin on November 3, 2025. According to a report by What’s on Netflix, the Keri Russell starrer will be filmed both in London and New York, just like Season 3. A source told the portal that "filming will take place throughout most of 2026, with a wrap-up sometime in mid-summer, targeting early July."

While the fourth season might not be able to wrap up post-production and release in 2026, it is very likely that it will premiere in early 2027. The first three seasons have followed the annual release pattern; the next looks to have a larger gap. The second season was shortened down to six episodes, but the third is back at the regular count of eight episodes.

The third season picks up after the jaw-dropping cliffhanger in Season 2, where Kate (Keri Russell), the US Ambassador to the UK, realises that Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) was involved in an attack on a British naval ship. As Kate's husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), tries to warn President Rayburn (Michael McKean), he dies of a heart attack in shock. This now means that Penn is now the president.The official synopsis adds, "With Penn now leading the nation, Hal pushes harder than ever to secure Kate the vice presidency. Thrust into a role she never sought, Kate must navigate unexpected freedom, a fraught connection with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a disquieting bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford)."
