In an interview with Sucharita Tyagi, the filmmaker shared, "We had tentatively titled the film Panther at a very, very early stage because of Dalit Panthers. The name of the group that Shekhar runs is called Dalit Panther and that's why Neelesh's journey was about becoming a Panther."Siddhant Chaturvedi was also part of the same interview and exclaimed, "Wow, I love this! Shazia, I didn't know about this one." The actor also admitted he had some reservations about the title: "When I heard the script, I could never think of it as a sequel. Because, see, the thing is the whole film is talking about identity, and firstly, it's a remake, so we are already burdened with something, and then it's a sequel, so hamari identity kahan gayi? So bohot symbolically, ironically, Dhadak 2, it never grew on me honestly."
