Prabhas Was Always Meant To Play Baahubali Says Makers
After the film's release, there was a rumor of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan being approached to play the lead, instead of Prabhas. Sounds, unimaginable for die-hard fans of the actor.
The producer of the Baahubali films, Shobu Yarlagadda, told news agency PTI that Prabhas was the only choice for the lead role and the makers never considered any other another actor project. There were reports that Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan approached for the role of Mahishmathi's prince but Shobu said, "I haven't thought beyond him (Prabhas) and the character was written keeping him in mind. We never approached anyone else, contrary to what some news reports say." The first part released in 2015 while the second part of SS Rajamouli-directed Baahubali film released in 2017.
Recently, following the announcement of Baahubali: The Epic, Shobu, addressed the rumours. He said, “I see online chatter that we asked Hrithik and stuff like that for Baahubali’s role. That never happened. Because from day one, it was Prabhas.”
SS Rajamouli shared a comment at a press event for filmmaker Meher Ramesh’s film Billa. He said “When Dhoom 2 released two years ago, I wondered why only Bollywood can make such quality films. Don’t we have heroes like Hrithik Roshan?" Later he apologised "It was long, long back — I think some 15-16 years back. But yeah, my choice of words wasn’t good, I must admit it. My intention was never to degrade him, I respect him a lot. It is long back.”Baahubali: The Epic also stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Nassar, and Sathyaraj. Baahubali features soundtrack of ten volumes composed by M M Keeravani, for the two-part Baahubali film series. The film is set to release on 31 October.
