Delhi BMW Crash: Son Shattered On 21st Birthday, Had Planned Gifts For Parents With His First Salary
New Delhi: Navnoor Singh faced heartbreak on what was supposed to be a joyous birthday celebration on September 16. Just before his special day, his father, Navjot Singh, was killed in an accident, leaving his mother, Sandeep Kaur, critically injured. Navjot Singh, a Finance Ministry official and resident of Hari Nagar, was killed when a BMW rammed into his motorcycle on Ring Road around 1.30 PM on Sunday. His wife sustained multiple injuries and a fracture and remains under treatment.On his 21st birthday, Navnoor fondly remembered how his parents were more like friends and cherished their time together. Parents had just celebrated anniversary
The family had just celebrated Navjot and Sandeep's 23rd wedding anniversary on September 1. "My parents were best friends first," their son recalled. "They really enjoyed each other's company. We've been living here for four generations. My great-grandfather served in the British Indian Army, and my grandfather, who is 85, is a retired Indian Air Force officer."Navnoor remembers the last conversation with his father vividly as he was leaving for his friend's house to celebrate his birthday a day early. "He said 'bye', and I told him I'd see him very soon. I had fully intended to spend time with them this year."The most painful part for him is his father will never get to see the gifts he chose for them. Navnoor had decided to buy a watch for his father and earrings for his mother. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the driver, Gaganpreet Kaur, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The sections invoked include 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125B (acts endangering life or personal safety of others), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender). She is currently in 2-day judicial custody.
