Discord Data Breach: Company Says Around 70,000 Government IDs May Have Leaked

Just a couple of days ago, Discord suffered a major data breach due to a security flaw incurred by one of its service providers. It was being said that the payment details and government IDs of users have been leaked because of the same. Now, the platform has claimed that around 70,000 users may have been affected by the breach as their government ID photos could have been exposed. That's not it, around 2 million photos could have leaked that were used for age verification purposes on the platform. Other data that could have been exposed in the breach include names, emails, Discord usernames, or any other details provided to Discord customer support. Nu Wexler, Discord spokesperson, said to The Verge, 'The numbers being shared are incorrect

and part of an attempt to extort a payment from Discord.' He further said, 'We will not reward those responsible for their illegal actions. All affected users globally have been contacted, and we continue to work closely with law enforcement, data protection authorities, and external security experts. What Discord Did As A Solution?

Discord, apart from working on patching the flaw and revoking all access of its service provider, started notifying the potentially affected users about the data breach via email. And yes, Discord has also asked users to be more cautious while replying to or entertaining emails and calls from unknown sources, as that could be a potential scammer. The only things positive about the event is that at least the payment details like card numbers, security numbers have not been leaked, as that could have triggered a major financial loss for a lot of users.
