Heavy Rains In Dehradun: 2 Missing In Sahastradhara, Tapkeshwar Temple Damaged, Red Alert Issued

News Update | Sahastradhara, Premnagar, Nanda Ki Chowki, Maldevta Bridge Latest: Dehradun witnessed very heavy rainfall late Monday night into Tuesday following a cloudburst, leaving behind a trail of destruction across popular tourist spot Sahastradhara and nearby areas. According to the Dehradun district administration, two people have gone missing in the Sahastradhara region following the deluge, while shops, hotels and commercial structures suffered extensive damage.
Residents Evacuated As Rains Lash Dehradun
Officials said residents in the affected zones were evacuated overnight as rising water levels threatened homes and businesses. A district official noted that while locals claimed it was a cloudburst, the event is still being verified through system data."The roads are blocked but we are working on reaching there. Locals have claimed that this was a cloudburst but we are verifying those facts. A few shops have been washed away but there has been no loss of human life," said Rishabh Kumar, District Disaster Management Officer.

Hotels, Shops And Temples Damaged
Debris-laden floodwater swept through main market areas of Dehradun, damaging multiple shops and two small hotels. SDRF and fire department teams were unable to reach some spots due to road blockages.
Heavy debris was also spotted near the IT Park, while videos of submerged roads and collapsed bridges went viral on social media. The approach bridge at Maldevta was washed away, cutting off the area completely.The famous Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple was also severely impacted, with rubble covering most of its premises and materials swept away.
Schools Shut, Red Alert Issued
Authorities have closed schools in Dehradun and issued a red alert till 9 am. Residents near rivers and drains—including the Tamsa, Tons and Song rivers—have been urged to remain vigilant.Heavy rain damage has also been reported from Rishikesh and Mussoorie, worsening the situation across Uttarakhand.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation in flood-hit Uttarakhand and announced a ₹1200 crore relief package for affected regions. The government has assured all necessary assistance to restore connectivity and provide immediate help to the displaced.(With inputs from agencies)
