On Sunday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the state’s arrangements to bid adieu to the beloved singer. Sharing an infographic message on X, he wrote: "After discussions with the family of Zubeen Garg, #AssamCabinet has approved allotment of 10 bigha land in Kamarkuchi, near Guwahati where our #BelovedZubeen will be laid to rest on September 23." The official message further read, "AN ODE TO THE LEGEND ZUBEEN GARG. Zubeen Garg will be laid to rest on 23 September, 2025. State Mourning extended till 23 September."The singer's memorials will be built at two places. The note continued, "Upon discussion with family, it has been decided to perform the last rites of Zubeen Garg and build his memorial on a 10 bigha land parcel in Hatimura, Kamarkuchi NC Village, Kamrup (M). The ashes of Zubeen Garg will be taken to Jorhat and a memorial will be built there honouring his connection with the historic town."

Assam mourns Zubeen Garg's death

As his mortal remains arrived in Guwahati from Singapore, the city was overwhelmed with grief. Thousands lined the streets to pay their final respects, showering flowers and chanting his name as his funeral procession made its way through the city. Videos circulating on social media show an ocean of admirers, many visibly emotional, joining in his final journey.Zubeen Garg, best remembered for songs like Ya Ali, passed away in Singapore after suffering breathlessness and a seizure while swimming. Despite CPR and being rushed to Singapore General Hospital, he was declared dead at 2:50 pm IST on Friday.The decision to build two memorials, one in Kamarkuchi and another in his hometown Jorhat, shows the depth of his legacy, ensuring that his music and memory will continue to inspire generations across Assam and beyond.
