Dude: Ilaiyaraaja To Sue Makers Of Pradeep Ranganathan's Film Over Unauthorised Use Of His Songs
When the issue was taken up on 22nd October, the judge said that though the respondents were big labels, Ilaiyaraaja is also a noteworthy music composer. Through his advocate, Ilaiyaraaja said “I may be a famous music composer. But I'm being cheated by these music companies. They are continuing to use my songs without any authorization. They're distorting it, adding beats to it,” The court then said that Ilaiyaraaja was within liberty to file a separate application if his songs were being used in an unauthorised manner in any other movie. The song Karutha Machan from Pudhu Nellu Pudhu Naathu composed by Ilaiyaraaja featured in the film Dude.
This is not the first time the legendary composer has been miffed with Mythri Movie Makers over allegedly using his intellectual property without approval. Earlier this year, he sued Mythri Movie Makers itself for the 'unauthorised' use of his songs in Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly.

Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly also starring Trisha, featured Ilaiyaraaja's hit songs Ottha Ruba Tharen, En Jodi Manja Kuruvi, and Ilamai Idho Idho. Subsequently, the court restrained Mythri Movie Makers from using his songs in the action-comedy film, leading to its unavailability on Netflix. Later , the makers replaced the songs with its background music and it was soon available on Netflix. Meanwhile, Dude also starring Mamitha Baiju and Sarthkumar has earned Rs 88 crores in less than a week at the box office.
