Chandni Bar Makers Share 'Registration With Original Producers' After Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Unauthorised' Title Complaint
After filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar filed a complaint with IMPPA against producer Sandeep Singh and director Ajay Bahl for using his registered title Chandni Bar for their sequel, Chandni Bar Returns, without
permission, he has now broken his silence for clarification. 'Sandeep Singh's Legend Studios has acquired the Option Rights of the said title from the Original Producers,' said the co-producer.
Chandni Bar makers react to Madhur Bandarkar's complaint
Producer Sandeep Singh's banner, Legend Studios, has issued a statement to clarify the legal standing of the project after Madhur's complaint with IMPPA. Along with this, he has also shared the official Government of India Trademark Registry certificate which establishes the registration of the title with the original producers of the film, Shri R. Mohan (late Lata Mohan Iyer). The co-producer of the film Vishal Gurnani stated, "Sandeep Singh's Legend Studios has acquired the Option Rights of the said title from the Original Producers, who are also the owners of the Registered Trademark and IP owner of the original cult classic Chandni Bar (2001). We want to state that no other banner can legally make the said film. The Fashion director has filed a complaint with the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) against the makers of the sequel for the “unauthorised use” of the title.In a letter to Singh and his banner, the IMPPA said, "This is to inform you that we have received a complaint from our member, M/s Bhandarkar Entertainment, Mr Madhur Bhandarkar that your company is using their registered title “Chandni Bar” for a sequel titled “Chandni Bar Returns” without obtaining the requisite authorisation or consent.
