Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 is all set to release on October 2, amid massive expectations. Ahead of the mythological epic's release, the makers of the film were spotted at the promotional event In Hyderabad. Fans of Jr NTR and Rishab Shetty, gathered in huge numbers to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars, however, focus on the film quickly shifted after producer Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers spoke about the film's lead actress Rukmini Vasanth.

Ravi Shankar, one of the producers behind the production house Mythri Movie Makers was speaking about his next film with Jr NTR and director Prashanth Neel. He then went on to praised Rukmini as an “extraordinary" performer. However, he also compared her talent to Jr NTR’s, saying he hopes she can match “at least 80 per cent" of the actor's skills. Netizens felt these comments were an 'insult' to Rukmini’s talent, which led to widespread criticism from fans and netizens.

At the event, Ravi Shankar said, “Heroine Rukmini Vasanth. She is also the heroine of our film with Prashanth Neel and Jr NTR. I have seen the way she performs up close, and she is extraordinary. We searched for months for a heroine who would match NTR’s talent or at least come close. We could only find her in Rukmini. She is an extraordinary performer.
