
The Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday arrested musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami in connection with the death of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. According to reports, Goswami was among the group that joined Zubeen on the Singapore yacht trip where the tragic incident occurred. Officials confirmed that Goswami was arrested after being questioned earlier today, though the specific allegations against him have not yet been revealed.It is still uncertain whether formal charges will be filed or what kind of relationship Goswami had with Garg. Earlier on Thursday, the SIT team conducted raids t the residences of Garg's manager Siddhartha Sharma and the organiser of the Northest India Festival, Shyamkanu Mahanta.The Assamese singer passed
away on September 19 in an unfortunate accident in Singapore. He was cremated on September 23. Zubeen’s sister, Palme Borthakur, along with Arun Garg and Rahul Gautam Sarma, performed the final rites. The legendary singer was cremated with full state honours, including a 21-gun salute. During the ceremony, his popular song Mayabini played across the crematorium grounds, with well-wishers joining in, singing along and paying an emotional tribute to the beloved artist.The Assam government has set up a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Special DGP MP Gupta to probe the singer’s death. The case has garnered widespread attention across the state and beyond, with fans calling for justice.
