Aryan Khan Breaks Silence On 'Scenes Inspired By Realities' Amid Sameer Wankhede Defamation Case

Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, recently made his directorial debut with the Netflix web series The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding a defamation suit filed by former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede against him, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Netflix, Aryan spoke in an interview about the intent and creative thought behind his show.

Aryan on balancing humour and respect

In an interview with Variety, Aryan explained that the creative team consciously set boundaries while developing the series. He shared, “We wanted to be self-deprecating, but not disrespectful anywhere. So I think we maintained that line correctly, and the guardrails were self-imposed, mostly because, making something about the industry and being a part of the industry, there has to be, there is a lot of respect.”Aryan further emphasised the importance of humility in comedy, adding, “People being able to take jokes on themselves, I feel, is the first and most important thing about comedy. Take a joke on yourself and then spread the love. People were extremely sporting, and we also made an effort not to push boundaries in terms of being disrespectful, only being self-deprecating.”

‘Inspired, Not a Documentary’

Aryan clarified that while the series is fictional, certain scenes draw inspiration from real experiences.He noted, “We were pushing it for screen, obviously, but obviously there’ll be things that are inspired. There’ll be scenes that are inspired on certain realities, and there’ll be exaggerations. The Defamation Suit

The show’s satirical tone sparked speculation about its real-life inspirations, with Sameer Wankhede filing a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court. He alleged that the series defamed him and sought Rs 2 crore in damages, requesting the amount be donated to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for cancer patients.On October 8, the Delhi High Court issued summons to Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix, X Corp (formerly Twitter), Google LLC, Meta Platforms, RPSG Lifestyle Media Private Limited, and others. The hearing is scheduled for October 30.
