Nothing CEO Carl Pei came to India and met Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology. And after the meeting, Pei took it to X to share his future plans. He has discussed the plan of setting up a joint manufacturing venture with Optiemus in the country. For those who are unaware, Optiemus is a large scale Indian firm that has multiple electronic manufacturing facilities. Carl Pei also claimed that Nothing will be investing around $100 million, which is around A whopping Rs 860 crore as per the Indian National Rupee, along with creating more than 1,800 jobs in the country over the next three years. This move by Nothing is set to make
India a major manufacturing and exporting hub for the company.
What Changes For Nothing Sub-Brand CMF In India?
CMF could be dubbed the affordable sub-brand introduced by Nothing to infiltrate the entry-level smartphone segment. Now, it has been confirmed by Nothing that CMF will be working as an independent subsidiary in India, and the global market operations of the same have already been relocated to India. According to the official press release by Nothing, India is going to be the base for manufacturing, R&D, and operations of CMF. As stated by Carl Pei, CMF is a success in the country, and Nothing is aiming to make CMF the first truly global smartphone brand of India. Optiemus Executive Chairman Ashok Gupta said, "Nothing's collaboration is a testament to the strength of the Indian ecosystem and the vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat."Nothing has been actively expanding its business after reaching the mark of $1.3 billion in valuation. The company recently raised around $200 million in a Series C funding round. Apart from the operational expansion, the company is also eyeing to enter the AI race next year. The company has already announced its plans to introduce AI-backed devices that will change the way people use AI on their smartphones.
