intense, and fiery form of Garba performed by the men in the city of Jamnagar, Gujarat. They’re among the few keeping this form of Garba alive! The performers practice this dance for MONTHS with burning torches (mashaals) during the Navratri festival—symbolizing strength, courage, and the victory of light over darkness. It’s been performed since 1957 but remains an underrated gem that not many people know about.”
The caption further added: “We were blown away when we saw the performance! Even while shooting, our hands flew to our mouths in utter shock and fascination! We literally couldn’t contain the joy we felt afterward—simply because we witnessed something as magical as this! And the cherry on top? The people of Jamnagar—from auto drivers to event organisers—were incredibly sweet and helpful, going out of their way to assist us. Our hearts were so full.”The video has since gone viral on social media, garnering numerous heartwarming reactions online. One user wrote, “It’s the most spine-chilling visual!” Another remarked, “Mashaal Raas has been happening in Jamnagar for more than seven decades, and thanks to the internet, more people are now noticing this incredible art.”
