The Batman 2: Matt Reeves Shares Filming Update, Says Star Robert Pattinson Gets To Keep Locked Script

are moving ahead for The Batman (2022) sequel! At the red carpet for the 2025 Emmy Awards, The Penguin executive producer Matt Reeves, who is writing and directing the sequel, had some exciting news to share. The filmmaker revealed when filming was due to begin; the cast is currently reading the coveted script. He also shared why Robert Pattinson, who returns as Bruce Wayne, gets to keep his locked script.

At the 77th Primetime Emmys red carpet, Reeves told Variety, "We start shooting [the film] in spring, probably around the end of April or beginning of May. It’s been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson [Tomlin] did, and we’ve started to share it with Robert [Pattinson].” Besides lead Pattinson, others in the world of Gotham, like Colin Farrell and Jeffrey Wright, are also set to return. The people who have read the script of The Batman 2 belong to an exclusive club at DC Studios. The team revealed that the scripts were literally under lock and key. Reeves said, "We put [the script] into a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code. [Pattinson] was in New York at the time, and everything is high security."

Reeves's version recast the superhero from Ben Affleck to Robert Pattinson. The official synopsis stated, "Batman ventures into Gotham City's underworld when a sadistic killer leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues. As the scale of the perpetrator's plans become clear, he must bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that plagues the metropolis." Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin were introduced in the film.
