Pakistan's Terror Plot Crushed: How ISI Used a Punjab Jail Link to Plot a High-Impact Attack

In a major success against cross-border terrorism, Punjab Police foiled a terror plot with the arrest of two operatives and the recovery of a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) in an intelligence-based operation in Amritsar.The operation, carried out by Amritsar Rural Police in close coordination with central agencies, led to the arrest of two accused - Mehakdeep Singh alias Mehak and Aditya alias Adhi. Police said the RPG was intended for a targeted terror strike in Punjab.According to preliminary investigations, the accused were in touch with an operative of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who had supplied the weapon, and with Harpreet Singh alias Vicky, currently lodged in Ferozepur Jail. aimed to execute a high-impact attack to destabilise peace in the state, Punjab Director General of Police, Punjab Gaurav Yadav said.A case has been registered at Gharinda Police Station in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to uncover the full network behind the plot, Yadav said.This development comes close on the heels of another major breakthrough on October 9, when Punjab Police busted a transnational terror module of the proscribed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The module was working on the directions of ISI and was taking instructions from UK-based handlers Nishan Jautian and Adesh Jamarai, who were in contact with BKI chief and designated terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda.During that operation, police recovered 2.5 kg of IED/RDX and a remote control device, foiling a potential bomb attack. Two BKI operatives were arrested.
