In a major move against former Delhi minister and AAP leader Satyendar Jain, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached immovable properties worth Rs 7.44 crore.“These immovable properties belong
to companies beneficially owned and controlled by Jain,” the ED said in a statement on Tuesday. In the past, Jain had denied any controlling stake in these companies and stated that he had resigned from them.No formal reaction has been received yet from Jain or the Aam Aadmi Party. Jain was arrested by the ED in May 2022 and released on bail by the Supreme Court in September 2024. He lost the February assembly election in Shakur Basti to BJP candidate Karnail Singh. The federal probe stems from a 2017 CBI FIR against Jain, his wife Poonam Jain, and others. The FIR alleged that Jain, while serving as a minister in the Delhi government, acquired disproportionate assets between February 2015 and May 2017. A chargesheet was filed by the CBI on December 3, 2018. Earlier, the ED had attached properties worth Rs 4.18 crore linked to companies under Jain’s control.According to the ED, in November 2016, soon after demonetisation, Jain’s aides and benamis Ankush Jain and Vaibhav Jain deposited Rs 7.44 crore in cash under the Income Disclosure Scheme in a Bhogal branch bank in South Delhi. They claimed ownership of assets worth Rs 16.53 crore held in accounts of M/s Akinchan Developers Pvt. Ltd, M/s Paryas Infosolutions Pvt. Ltd, M/s Manglayatan Projects Pvt. Ltd, and M/s Indo Metal Impex Pvt. Ltd., which the ED said were actually controlled by Jain.“The Income Tax Department and Delhi High Court identified Ankush Jain and Vaibhav Jain as benami holders for the ex-minister. The Supreme Court dismissed their petitions, making the finding final,” the ED said. The ED has shared the information with the CBI, prompting a supplementary chargesheet covering Jain’s tenure as minister. The total provisional attachment in the money laundering case now exceeds Rs 12 crore, and the ED is in the process of filing a supplementary chargesheet.
