By this point in time- Delhi’s air quality dropping lower than the ‘Sun’s gravity’ itself, on the next day of Diwali every year– has seemingly turned into a thing! For most Hindu families, October 20 was
the correct Diwali date- resulting in them celebrating the festival with full zeal, which also included bursting crackers for hours. What followed was an AQI that seemingly left Delhi 'choked’- or so is what most netizens are complaining about! The morning of October 21 witnessed all kinds of reactions on social media, where most were about Delhi’s AQI. Reportedly, by 10 PM Monday, Delhi's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 344, placing the city under the ‘very poor’ quality. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), 36 monitoring stations reported air quality in the ‘red zone,’ and four registered ‘severe’ pollution levels, out of 38 monitoring stations. The stations in Dwarka (417), Ashok Vihar (404), Wazirpur (423), and Anand Vihar (404) reported AQI readings above 400– ‘severe’ category. With such a quality of air on the very night of Diwali and the following morning, citizens took to social media to chastise the blatant use of firecrackers. Netizens also resorted to using memes and jokes as a ‘coping mechanism’.Let’s take a look at some of the most viral memes and reactions:“Private Hospitals seeing AQI in Delhi cross 2000 +,” a user said.

Toxic smoke across Delhi this morning. Over 200,000 in Delhi have been rushed to hospital with emergency ARI ( Acute Respiratory Illness) in the last year. We must collectively ask ourselves & introspect why we voluntarily choose to harm our own health. pic.twitter.com/p2NTvdOyDc
