An Air India flight from Amritsar to Birmingham made a safe landing on Saturday after the operating crew detected the deployment of the aircraft’s Ram Air Turbine (RAT) during final approach.According
to Air India, all electrical and hydraulic parameters remained normal, and the aircraft landed safely. The airline said the aircraft has been grounded in Birmingham for further technical checks. There were however no issue or serious threat on the Air India flight, and the engine parameters were working fine. The Ram Air Turbine (RAT), a backup safety system that ensures pilots can still fly and land the plane safely if all main power systems fail, was deployed unexpectedly, even though all systems were working fine.As a result, the return flight AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi has been cancelled, with alternative arrangements being made for passengers.“The operating crew of flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham on 04 October 2025 detected deployment of the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) of the aircraft during its final approach. All electrical and hydraulic parameters were found normal, and the aircraft performed a safe landing at Birmingham," an Air India spokesperson told Times Now."The aircraft has been grounded for further checks, and consequently, AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi has been cancelled and alternative arrangements are being made to accommodate the guests. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew remains top priority," the spokesperson added.
