An American woman is going viral on social media for documenting her life in India. She regularly shares videos on her Instagram handle, giving the internet a glimpse into her life in Bengaluru. In one
of her recent videos, she revealed how she sends her kids alone to a corner shop in the city. However, as the video went viral, many desi netizens chimed in, advising her, “Please don’t send your kids alone.”The video was shared on Instagram by the woman, identified as Dana Marie. In the clip, two kids can be seen roaming around inside a shop, with a camera attached to one of them to record the entire experience. One of the kids says in the video, “My mom told me to go to the mini-mart alone — with my brother, of course — and get two packets of butter.”The two children hop around the shop, pick up the items they need, and even converse with the shopkeeper in English, who also responds in English. The video was captioned, “Growing up in the US, my mom used to make me walk to a neighbor’s house two blocks away to ‘borrow’ some butter, sugar, eggs, etc. (pretty sure we never returned them). Now I just send my kids to the corner shop. If it’s late and the shop is closed, or they don’t carry something, I order on a quick delivery app and get it in 5–15 minutes. The money I gave them was just for the butter — I keep a separate tab open for their treats.”
