Mammootty Resumes Patriot Shoot 8 Months After Break Due To Health Issues; Expresses Gratitude

superstar Mammootty is preparing to return to the set of his latest film, Patriot, after taking an eight-month break due to health issues. Director Mahesh Narayanan confirmed that the veteran actor will resume filming in Hyderabad starting October 1. Mammootty’s hiatus, first reported in March, drew attention from fans. Despite circulating rumours about his condition, his team refuted any serious health concerns. By August, Mammootty himself shared that he had recovered and was ready to get back to work. Recently, the actor confirmed his comeback with a heartfelt message expressing gratitude to those who reached out during his recovery.

Mammootty resumes shooting Patriot, pens note

Taking to X, (Formerly known as Twitter), the actor shared a picture of himself and wrote, "Back to doing what I love most in life after a short break.Words aren’t enough to Thank everyone who checked on me during my absence." He added, "The camera is calling…," and added a smiling face emoticon.

His son Dulquer Salmaan welcomed 'King' in a heartwarming post and wrote, "After a brief pause, the King returns in style. A true legend never fades. #ReturnOfTheKing"

Director Mahesh Narayanan on Patriot shoot

Director Mahesh Narayanan shared that Mammootty’s break did not slow down the overall progress of Patriot. The team used this period to shoot scenes involving other cast members, keeping the schedule on track. Speaking to Onmanorama, Mahesh said, “I would visit his house to show him edits. He was fully involved in the process, even while away from the set.” Co-stars and friends, including Mohanlal, expressed their support and excitement for Mammootty’s return.

Mohanlal reveals praying for Mammootty's health

Mohanlal had earlier revealed, “I prayed for him in Sabarimala and elsewhere. He underwent treatment while we were filming Patriot. From what I hear, he’ll be back next month, starting with dubbing work. There will be medical restrictions initially before he resumes shooting.”The upcoming schedule will include important scenes featuring Mammootty and Mohanlal, after which the crew plans to shoot the next phase in the UK. Mahesh Narayanan added, “We’re all thrilled to have Mammookka (Mammootty) back on set.”

Cast member Ramesh Pisharody confirmed that Mammootty will soon head to Hyderabad to continue filming. Other prominent actors such as Fahadh Faasil and Kunchacko Boban are also part of the project, with the team adjusting schedules to accommodate Mammootty’s phased return. The production team emphasised that prioritising Mammootty’s health was central to the decision to reorganise the filming timetable, with medical guidelines in place during his initial days back on set.
