At the Venice Film Festival, The Smashing Machine received a 15-minute standing ovation. Looking at the reception, Dwayne got emotional. Talking to AP before the premiere, the actor said, “I have for a long time wanted this. The transformation part was something I was really hungry to do. I’ve been very fortunate to have the career that I’ve had and make the films that I have, but there was just this voice inside of me, this little voice, like what if I can do more.” A24’s The Smashing Machine is directed by Benny Safdie. The biographical sports drama is presented by PVR INOX Pictures in India. Johnson plays legendary ’90s fighter Mark Kerr in the film.
