In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Kunal Kemmu expressed his gratitude for winning the Best Debut Director award for Madgaon Express. He shared, "I'm very happy that this happened. Vo ek zidd hoti hai na ki apko ye chahiye, aise nahi mila toh vaise nahi mila (there’s always a determination that you want something — if you don’t get it one way, you find another), so I kind of changed the medium to get this one. But I'm very happy that I got it for the first film. I think this is something that comes with the responsibility of doing better and striving harder so that it doesn’t seem like it was just a one-hit-wonder situation."He also added, "I believe that it's best to put your work out there and then talk about it as a person, as opposed to talking about it before you even do it. So, something is always in the works."

Kunal felt surreal

Adding to the conversation, he shared, "I'm super delighted that films like Laapataa Ladies, Kill, Madgaon Express are shining at this year’s awards, and it's refreshing to see that. Besides that, one of my dearest actor friends, Rajkummar Rao, who I’m rooting for, has had multiple incredible performances not just this year but consistently. He is somebody I’m definitely rooting for. I was very thrilled to see Shah Rukh sir hosting this and having Karan, him, and Akshay sir kind of be there and hand this trophy to me was surreal."
