Times Now
Thamma, the latest film in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, introduced new characters and a unique concept to the franchise. It released in theatres on October 21 and stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika
Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal and others. The internet was flooded with viral clips of a major fight sequence involving a werewolf. As fans of the horror comedy universe know, the werewolf is played by Varun Dhawan.
Ayushmann Khurrana vs Varun Dhawan in Bhediya 2?
Varun returns as Bhaskar from Bhediya (2022). In Thamma, the werewolf fights Ayushmann’s Alok, a vampire-like being called Betaal. Abhishek Banerjee’s Jana explains that Bhaskar has lost his power to transform into a werewolf after sustaining injuries during the final fight with Sarkata in Stree 2. To regain strength, he needs the blood of a Betaal. Alok’s blood multiplies Bhaskar’s power and this leads to a nail-biting fight.ALSO READ: Thamma Ending EXPLAINED: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna's Vampire Film To Get Sequel? In the climax of Thamma, one of the members of the Betaal sect says Alok needs the blood of the werewolf before hunting Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who is rescued from the cursed cave by Sarkata. This indicates that Bhediya 2, the next film in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, might feature Ayushmann in a key role. The conflict between the werewolf and Betaal could form the premise of the monster comedy.
Thamma review
Giving Thamma 2.5 stars, Times Now’s in-house critic wrote, “Thamma is a letdown and the weakest link. The pressure of overstuffing the second half with cameos and connecting threads to the future movies bogs down its true potential. Thamma’s characters will feature in more films, and Aditya tries to focus mainly on building the universe rather than exploring the finer nuances of an impossible love story and the marriage of two worlds. The first half is rushed, predictable and plain boring.”ALSO READ: Thamma Movie Review: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna Diwali Vampire Flick Lacks TeethThamma is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Maddock Films.
