Isha Koppikar on 19 years of Don, working with Shah Rukh Khan
Reflecting on 19 years of Don, Isha spoke to Zoom about the energy on her film's set, the international vibe and how it was like working with SRK. "19 years doesn't really seem that long. My god, surreal. I think the energy on the set was really sharp, very slick, and very modern. I had not shot a movie like that before. I loved the club sequences. Even the club sequences where we shot Aaj Ki Raat and Main Hoon Don were absolutely glam," she said. The actress further recalled, "The lights, the action, everything had a very international vibe. The entire film had a very international vibe. And of course, working with Shah Rukh was a masterclass in screen presence. He always lit up the set, even off camera." As an actor who evolves emotionally, technically, today I think I'll bring more subtlety. Maybe I'd expect a little more action for myself. I didn't have it in that much to do in terms of action in that film."She continued to add, "I have been practicing martial arts over the years, and I think I'm a little more up with it now. I'm a little more trained. And I think I would tap more into the mystery of the character. But honestly, I'm proud also of what I did then, that the moment in time has its own magic, that particular moment. Every moment has its magic, and you don't want to mess with that either."Don was way ahead of time: Isha Koppikar
Moving on, the Don actress stated that her film wasn't just a remake, but a 'reboot with an entire whole new aesthetic'. "I think Farhan brought a very cool slick edge to it. At that time, Bollywood hadn't seen many thrillers, in terms of the kind of styling that Don had; the editing, the music. Everything felt elevated. I think it was way ahead of its time," she said.Having said that, Isha never personally felt any pressure of stepping into remake of an iconic original. "There was always respect, even reverence, for the original. But I completely trusted Farhan's vision. And he wasn't trying to copy the old. I think he was re-imagining it for a new generation. I didn't feel any pressure personally. My focus was to fit into this slick world he was trying to create, and I had my own space in it," the actress recalled before signing off.Meanwhile, Don currently streams on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.Do you find this article useful?
